The Sarah Loguen Fraser Scholarship is given annually to a first or second year Upstate medical student who holds similar ideals to Dr. Sarah Loguen Fraser who was the first African-American woman to graduate from the medical college. The scholarship is principally based on need, but the recipient must also have a genuine desire to provide service to the medically under-served.
Funding for this scholarship is provided by the generosity of alumni and friends of Upstate Medical University. To support this scholarship see form below. To nominate a student for this award, click here.
The 2016 scholarship recipient is Kethia Eliezer '17
"From my fellow peers, to a homeless person on the street, to a family at the Ronald McDonald house, no one is ever too poor, too wealthy, too different, or too hopeless for me to lend a helping hand to. I can't say its truly all altruistic really because I actually find happiness and purpose in helping others. I truly enjoy it. So you see, I will surely carry Sarah Loguen Fraser's legacy with me and keep her vision alive as I promise to serve others, especially the under served communities in the US and abroad. As a future pediatrician, this award will help ground me and serve as a daily reminder of why I wanted to become a physician. My only hope is that with everyone I meet in my journey through life, I inspire someone to lend a helping hand."
